Some translation clients may request a translator to work out a small piece of text for test purpose. Usually such work is done without payment. It is a kind of free translation.

In addition to winning the job opportunities, people may do translation for free for mental award. It is often, but not always, associated with community translation. See "Community translation" for more information.
