Setting segment status

You can set a segment as one out of the below four statuses.

  • Needs Translation: Default for segment not translated yet.
  • Needs Editing: Translated but improvement required.
  • Needs Proofreading: Edited but further improvement required.
  • Ready to Commit: Well edited and proofed, ready for client to use.

By setting a status,

  • you tell other translators what you expect them to do next: work or rework (Needs Translation), edit (Needs Editing), proofread (Needs Proofreading), or just have a quick browse (Ready to Commit).
  • you tell client how you proceed with the job: the job progress will be 100% when all segments are Ready to Commit.

System will calculate the progress indicator for each job based on segment status. When all segments are set as Ready to Commit, the progress will be 100%. It means that the job is done and translators will be paid for the translation.

You shall choose the right status based on your judgement on the translation quality. For example,

  • When you translate a segment from scratch, set it as Needs Editing when you finish and want other translators to edit it.
  • You can reset a segment as Needs Editing or Needs Translation if you find its quality is poor, even if someone else has set it as Needs Proofreading.

For a job with process set as TE (translation + editing) or TEP (translation, editing and proofreading), different translators are required to do editing or proofreading. Higher-rank translator can edit work done by lower-rank translator. Translators with Rank higher than 7 can edit any work.

In any cases, the best practice is to have your translation reviewed by someone else!
