Translation of concept.

Dear Colleagues,

Translation is a delicate and sensitive matter. Therefore, we should be always careful and review our work twice or even three times. I have seen translators translate word for word; I have seen others translate sentences. However, I have seen very few people do translate the concept. The English language does not have equivalent for each Arabic word, and same thing for Arabic. From my point of view, we should always look for the concept when we translate because by doing that we will transfer the whole image from the source language into the target.

Furthermore, I think translators trying to avoid adding words were not exist in the original text. I personally think that, there is not exact translation without adding words from the target languages to transfer the image and the idea from the source to the target language. If the translators are avoiding additions which will help to transfer idea just because they are afraid from being accused of additions or substitution, they should not feel so. From my experience, translators should be very careful while translate. They should keep in mind that translating is not only for words or sentences; it should always include the idea and the concept.

I hope that will help.

Yes

I absolutely agree with you. We should not be "intimidated" by the original version. We, as translators, have to pass ideas much more often than exact words, therefore, to make the translation as fluent as possible, we have to rebuild whole sentences, since grammar and expressions vary from language to language.

Totally in sync with you Joao
