I'm really happy to be here! I'm a Persian (Farsi) native translator, from/into English. I have graduated from Lahijan Azad University in English Language and obtained an undergraduate certificate (BA) on July 2008. Since then, I'm in translation business! I have more than 3 years of experience and mostly translated in these fields: Law, Management, IT, Medicine, Engineering, Finance, etc.

Thanks Elly for posting this comment. I'm a certified English/Spanish - Spanish/English translator from Argentina. I do believe that Translation has always been a complex though enriching process. It is also true that each semantic field has got its unique characteristics; however translators whose main area of expertise is Medicine need to be extra careful to avoid ambiguity and dangling ideas. As a former translation teacher of mine used to say: "medical translators should be extremelly careful so as not to kill the patient!"
They need to develop a critical attitude towards their renderings, and most of all, they need to develop an empathic relationship with every agent involved in this demanding, wonderful world of Medical Translation. I'm still learning to improve my translation skills; I'm still learning to become a better and more competent medical translator. I hope we can all help each other.

I have extensive translating and proofreading experience in medical (patient information, informed consents, information about nutrition, etc), I like this topic because I have a sister who is a doctor and since I was student I have translated to her different documents. Thanks to Elly Liu, for her self-introduction and I would like to return the favor. I am a fairly "young" retiree myself as I worked for the Canadian department of agriculture as a research biologist for the past 32 years. During that time, I have written and edited papers in scientific journals and translated technical bulletins from English to French or French to English available on the internet, and also editing from European French to Canadian French.
I recently took the translator certificate program at the University of Toronto to formalise my translation skills. I am planning to contact agricultural products companies to promote our new group service. I didn't realise there was already a medical documentation translation group but intend to re-focus the new group on the agri-environmental sector. I am open to suggestions and hope we can break new grounds as spring is an important sesason for promoting agricultural products.

So when I had to retire from my career I dedicate to translation as a freelancer on very different themes, even love letters.

It's been a good many years since I first began earning a living as freelance translator in Mexico. Once of my first paid jobs was as in-house translator at a Mexican public health institution, where I was employed during well over five years. Translation, copyreading, transcription, and even private English classes. Since then I have still been given several medical documents to translate, though not on such a regular basis, of course. Now I live in Spain and am always on the lookout for anyone needing speedy, accurate, and flexibly priced translations. And it's always nice to lend people a hand, and especially to participate in innovative translation ventures like this one. Luck to all, and saludos.

My name is Valeria Ricciardi and I am a full-time freelance translator since 2002. I graduated at the School for interpreters and translators here in Milan, where I live, and began working in the medical translation sector right away. I mainly work on SPCs, clinical trials and chemistry patents and I did a lot also in the arthroplasty sector.

My other specializations are software localization, video-games and marketing. I really hope we will be able to let this site thrive...and maybe spice up a bit the translation sector which I think has suffered the world crisis a bit lately!

Translia fits completely in my life because it is online and you get to learn your colleagues working in community.

My name is Bona Badiali. I am 56 years old and I live in Bologna, Italy. I have a University Degree in English Language and Literature, Bologna University, obtained in 2005. I have worked for more than fourteen years for a company located in Bologna which imported electro-medical equipments from all over the world to be sold in the italian market. I was responsible for the relationships with the manufacturers of these devices and my job's language was english. I have translated instruction manuals, leaflets and brochures, doctors ' paperworks proving the efficacy of the devices as well as any commercial, contractual and financial documentation. The company ceased to operate in 1994 ans since then I have mainly operated as a free-lance translator. I have also been appointed as Vice-Director of a Cultural Institute in Bologna dedicated to socio-political studies linked to an important publishing house, Il Mulino, and for this editor I have translated a book and several essays.
