Of course, reading the guide is necessary, such as How to start a public job on Translia -> http://www.translia.com/node/22. But, I'd like to give some tips for a quick start. It's much easier to start a job on Translia than you ever thought:
Log in as Translator;
Find a job and open it;
Read the instruction and project info under View tab;
Click Translation Tab to translate online segment by segment, and update segment status accordingly;
That's done!
And, take the quiz (http://www.translia.com/quiz) at the top right would be helpful too!
Finally, why not have a try on the free jobs of your language? even only one sentence! Good for you and help others.
Why I can't do translation? The possible reasons:
1. The job is closed. Translator can only work on Open jobs.
2. The target language is not your native language. You have limited access to such jobs.
3. You need to boost your Translator Rank. If you can't edit the segment which is set to Ready to commit in an open job, it means that a higher Translator Rank is required. Only translators with rank higher than 7 can edit such translation if they find something can be improved.
Translia feature
As to the job notification, Translia is quite different with other websites that you may work with. For them,
You get the job notification, then contact the client or provide your quote, wait for the client's decision and may get the job after email communication with the clients.
On Translia, once you get the job notification, it means that you can start translation immediately. You have the source content, word count, deadline, total rate for the job...
Thanks for info

Hi Yolanda
Thank-you very much for these tips they are rather clear and concise. I have read the guide and it is necessary even to place these tips in context. But these are enough for a quick start, which sometimes is what we look for.
Well, maybe I am just lucky.
Well, maybe I am just lucky. I stumbled upon the web site, there was a job already 85%, so I started editing/proofreading a job started by someone else. I have to say that as a R1 newbie I got to do what normally only experienced translators do... editing and proofreading... :-) exhilarating... :-)

Hi Yolanda, how do I make sure I receive email notifications for jobs?
That's easy. Log in ->
That's easy.
Log in -> Account -> Edit -> Translator Profile, then check the option Job Notification.
Besides, your rank is another key factor which decides if and when you get the notification.

Yolanda

I tried opening a job to translate it but found no text. It was my rank, it was only 65% done; I had received a direct notification, yet I was unable to work on it. What's frustrating is that I had no place to go for help. I guess I'm still a rookie with Translia. Does anyone have suggestions?
Oh, help me!
When I open a job, I don't find no "Translation tab" to start a translation. Why? The only "Translation tab" I can see is the orange manu above, but I don't think I have to click it again to open the list of Translation Jobs ...
A possible reason
The job may be closed already and is not available for translation. Could you pls let me know the job ID? Thank you.

OmegaT+
Dear Yolanda!
This Forum is so big, I don't find a proper topic, so I write it here:
How it is possible that the Hungarian translation of the OmegaT+ is completed by jtprice (he just posted a link to it , with a big smile, in our Hungarian group) but on this site the 2 jobs show less than 30 percent completness?
I have worked on the 104261 today for 5 hours to do some progress, in vain. You bet, I could have done something more useful instead....
Thanks for your contribution to the project.
I see your contribution to OmegaT+ HU projects.
The project on Translia http://www.translia.com/node/104261 is of 24% progress. However, jtprince did the translation using OmegaT+ itself - I read the posts inside the HU Translator's group. You may still contribute to the project on Translia, since the documents are in different format. How do you think?
OmegaT+
My contribution to this text was very little, since I don't have the knowledge of programming. jtprince is the "king" :-D . I can do the neutral parts, plus proofread the rest grammatically and by style. Or I can give it a go using the other, the original OmegaT (not +) Hungarian version from the internet. Hm. I like the idea, if I can be of service. :-)
Btw. is there any chance to organize the Forum topics? Several pages, who can go through them all? Scary. :-)
Well
jtprince's package will be included in the Software itself - or already included - I haven't checked yet.
We can keep the projects on Translia open for a period of time, in case there are colleagues who hope to practice. BTW, would you please add a note to the two HU projects about the Discussion in HU Translation group? I don't read Hungarian well since I use Google Translate ;-)
Hungarian localization received
Hi,
Yes, the member jtprince sent me the localization a number of weeks ago. It works, not that I can read Hungarian.
It will be included in the next release of OmegaT+, unless someone has some improvements to add in the interim.
Thanks.
Glad to know that and thank
Glad to know that and thank you jtprince!
We appreciate your support!
Of course, I will talk with the Dev team. Actually, we disabled some features of the forum when we publish the group feature. Group is more powerful and flexible for both translators and clients. Of course, the forum is not replaceable.
