Welcome all,

This group is simply to fill the "holes" in between translation jobs where you can come write about what translation tools you like (or dislike), your special techniques, your translation career (do you work in another field or only translation) etc., or basically about anything you like, really.

I'll just start by saying that some jobs on which I bid (outside translia) require the use of Trados and that thing costs over $700. But it seems that WordFast (which I started to use) can do the job as well, if not better. Anyone have any thoughts on that?

How's your life as freelance translaor?

Hi, I am a freelance korean translator almost for 3 years so far. Happy to be a memeber of this group to share information, experiences and others. One question is: are you satisfied with your life as freelancer? For me, I only have one unstable client with unregular work offer.

Does anybody know if it is possible to delete or amend post? You know, made a mistake in spelling, but pressed save button..... Is there a possibility to amend your own post/comment?

I'm new one here. Can anybody explain to me how to raise rating (rank)? You know.... To get 7 or higher in order to have the right to translate and edit....

Now, can someone tell me what's wrong with Translia? I got a new job and when I tried to work on it I could not find the edit link. Then, I found a way around and voila...a completely different interface. After I did a couple of sentences and saved them, they disappeared. Anything wrong with the server?
Even the earnings issue is just half solved up till now.

When do I get my earnings

Hi, I participated in the last job (ID 831518) with about 25% edits, yet got 0 earnings!! May I ask why?
Is there a problem with Translia system?
I sent to ask for support, but got no answer!!!!!!!!!

Any advice?

Is everybody working happily with the PDF system, because I am encountering some difficiulties. Unless I am missing something, the only way I have been able to do them is to priint of the page and then type my translation in a Word.doc which I then copy and paste into the target translation box.

Use of Trados

Hi SusanR. Following on your remarks re. Trados, I had the trial package, which quite honestly, I didn't get on with and was therefore loathe to invest over US$800 for the Trados Studio 9, especially as it doesn't even come with a tutorial. The tutorial has to be paid for apart. For Translia segment based translations, I am not convinced that such a tool is worthwhile.
